Rain in Atlanta

As you may have heard, we've gotten a lot of rain in ATL the last several months. As this video shows, things can get critical during the heavier rains...

Right now it's sunny, 60 degrees, light breeze and there are in fact no mudslides on the Silver Comet so I think it's time for a ride!

19,776 Grams

Friday night brought us our first, and most likely last, Alley Cat race of the year. With short notice, we still managed to round up a group of approx. 10 racers. Meeting time was 7pm at The Abbey in DePere.
After a few adult beverages and some food, it was time to give the rules for the evenings race/scavenger hunt.
Many weapons of choice. We had mtn bikes, cyclocross bikes, carbon road bikes, steel singlespeeds, and many more.

This race's purpose was to have racers go on a food scavenger hunt throughout the city of Green Bay/DePere. I chose 4 sectors of town, comprised a grocery list, and gave the GO!!!!

Small groups rode together as they criss-crossed town. After all was said and done, the average mileage was 23-25 miles per racer, to hit all 4 stops around town.
Bill Schneider was the winner of the night, with Johnny a close second. Each won some cool prizes donated by the Bike Hub.

The whole point of this Alley Cat race was to gather food, which we could then donate to Paul's Pantry. to help feed the hungry in our area, just in time for Thanksgiving.

The above photo is the food we were able to collect during our night-time urban race. Before I dropped it off, I managed to toss it on a scale as well. 43.6 POUNDS!!! So, for your uber-techy weight weenies out there, that's approximately 19,776 grams of food!!!

Job well done everyone! Talking with racers post-race, everyone seemed to have had a blast, as it was a perfect night for a night ride! If you weren't there, you missed out. (but don't worry, we'll be having more). Thanks again for attending, and remember you did a good deed, as a few extra people will be able to eat heartily this Thanksgiving!

Two Months Later...

...Almost to the day, I finally swing my leg over favorite bike and set out to complete the ride I planned back on Sept. 9th. Finally, I'm back on my mountain bike.

A lot of things have been rolling through my mind since my crash. Having never experienced trauma beyond a good bruise, I was kinda nervous what would be left of me once I recovered. Would I feel like normal being back in the saddle or would I feel uncomfortable? Would I be skittish hitting the same trails I once used to be able bomb down? These thoughts poured through my brain for two months. I can very greatfully say that I feel good, I feel solid, and most of all, I feel motivated.

<------The scene of the crime
But I can say with utmost certainty is that after two months of minimal excersize I am waaaay out of shape. After todays ride it almost feels like I've lost almost all of my fitness I gained this past summer. Climbs I used to hammer feel like walls. Strength has fallen through the floor. What a kick in the pants.

But today is Nov. 7th. Iola is May 2nd. It may seem like a long ways a way, but I have to start somewhere. What better place to begin than on a 70 deg November day.

^And the log bridge has been redone quite well. Good job to whoever did that.
<----There is a trail there somewhere
